Rules for this list

Only complete, non-casual games, which have at least open source code (media can be semi- or non-free.) In addition, the games on this list must be free to download (also known as "free as in beer".) Please discuss on the Talk page before removing games from the list and before adding games which are likely to be seen as incomplete or casual by others.

Complete games must not have features missing, which are required to complete a game session, campaigns or multi-player matches. Single-player mode must have a start, an end and provide a reasonable amount of levels/gameplay. Multi-player mode must provide a reasonable amount of levels and game modes.

Casual games are non-complex games. This doesn't mean that any game which requires thought is non-casual and that any game not requiring thought is a casual one.

These 'definitions' will hopefully be improved with the help of the power of discussion.

About this list

This list was based on a forum.freegamedev.net thread.

References

  1. AssaultCube's media license? It's complicated
  2. Fish Fillet NG's data COPYING file
  3. FlightGear's data COPYING file
  4. The background of Warsow game menu shows a stylized real-time video/demo, which counts as an intro (and is cool)
